I have extensive senior management experience, with over 15yrs reporting to CEO / GM level in both the private and public sectors, I have proven competencies in corporate leadership at a national and at an EMEA level. The range of businesses I have managed in varies from Hi Volume Consumer Electronics (RCA, Philips, Motorola) to Automotive (Iralco) and laterally to Database Services in the public sector (ICBF). I have demonstrated excellent leadership skills, strong in building teams with results focus.
The management training at Motorola and Philips was extensive and disciplines like Lean Business, Six Sigma, and Statistical Process Controls were brought to great use in my career. I am both certified auditor by Philips (PQA-90) and Motorola (Business Excellence EQA) and in 2013 I achieved my Black Belt status in Lean Sigma methodologies from Cork’s Institute of Technology.
Through many years of accumulated Six Sigma and Lean expertise, garnered from such blue chip exponents like Motorola and Philips, Martin Burke (Certified Lean Sigma Black Belt) delivers improvements by specifically working with and through your people, leading and showing them how to use the improvement tools.

1985 – 1989: QUALITY ENGINEER (AUTOMOTIVE)

Hi Vol Manufacture and Distribution of Automotive components ca 250 staff
- Four years in German Automotive Quality Engineering gave me a solid industrial platform
- Advanced Quality Planning responsibility for all new product lines, FMEA and SPC (Ref Ford Q1)
- Developed and installed from scratch IRALCO’s Vendor Selection / Rating SOPs
1989 – 1996: QUALITY MANAGER
1996 – 1999: MANUFACTURING MANAGERPHILIPS Consumer Electronics / RCA, Model Farm Road, Cork
Design & Manufacture of Security Electronics, Cameras, 150 staff
- Industrial Strategy and Resource Planning for Cork Plant (5yr Plan)
- Providing Leadership and motivation to staff of Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Logistics and Facilities
- Drove Cost Control/reduction – took 8% off Operations annual budget of £3m, and 10% off Inventory spend ca £10m in 1998
- Implemented living TQM Platform through establishment of Self Directed Work Teams (SDWTs), creating cells throughout plant aligned to company/divisions goals.
- Completed Philips North America Industrial Management Training
- ISO9001 corporate responsibility;- had responsibility to implement ISO 9001 for all the division, brought successful ISO accreditation to multi sites including plants in USA, Ireland, UK (Sales) and Germany, all managed by myself through NSAI contract here in Ireland
- ISO 14001 – responsible for Cork plant successfully getting certified to ISO Environmental Standard.
1999 – 2001: QUALITY MANAGER (COUNTRY) MOTOROLA PCS, Hollybank, Swords, Co. Dublin
Hi Vol Manufacture and Distribution of Cellular Mobile phones for EMEA Market, 1400 staff, 12 SMT Lines, 24/7.
- PCS Ireland Senior Staff member representing Dublin plant at EMEA level.
- Improved Q goals for products and processes within Dublin plant. Achieved this by leading and motivating a Q staff of 40 in; Factory/Distribution/Customer Services/Test/Calibration & QA
- Drove Motorola Six Sigma improvement program in Hi Volume Operations. Manufacturing Quality brought from 5.43 to 5.55 sigma in 12 months. Steered and coached cross functional improvement team to European Award for “Teaming for Excellence” in Malta 2000.
- Certified Motorola EFQM/ EQA auditor. Process Re-engineering responsibility as driver of “Performance Excellence” program in Dublin which is Motorola version of EFQM business excellence model.
2001 – 2012: BREEDING INFORMATION SERVICES MANAGER

AGRI CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS
- ICBF: Set up new Breeding Information Service (HerdPlus), convened and headed up new team to design, produce and support database reports/statistics to Irish farmers & Agri sector industry. Grew the client base from 1,000 in 2006 to now over 17,000 farmers getting breeding reports – generating some €700K revenue stream pa for organisation.
- ICBF: Developed and managed following new National Data Recording Services ;
- Animal Events Data capture – consolidating of multi forms agencies into one system
- Electronic DIY Milk recording – new technology, grew uptake from 330k cows > 550k
- Beef Weighing infrastructure – hired and deployed 30 technicians nationwide
- Genomics Service – DNA genotyping/mapping service for Irish farmers (2nd in world)
- Developed and delivered numerous Training courses/modules for industry partners ;
- Teagasc Colleges – developed and delivered ICBF breeding modules content for Ireland’s six Agricultural Colleges
- Teagasc Advisors – delivered “in service” training days for Field staff
- CIT Agri. Degree Course – Level 8 – was part of industry group that help design content for CIT’s new Agricultural Degree course (2012).
- Developed links and crucial working relationships with management in various public and private Agri stakeholders critical to database, eg DAFM, Teagasc, Milk Co-ops, Bord Bia etc
- ICAR: As Chairman of the Recording Devices Sub-Committee of ICAR, I coordinate the activities of the German, Dutch and French test centres which test and approve milk recording meters to ICAR standards. (ICAR = International Committee of Animal Recording).
